Some taps can be repaired with new internal parts, cartridges, washers or seals. Other taps are better replaced, especially if they are old, badly worn, corroded or awkward to repair.
If you send a quick photo of the tap and the pipework underneath, I can often advise whether it looks like a repair or replacement before booking.
Tip: If water is leaking underneath the sink, put a bowl or towel below it and avoid forcing any stiff isolation valves. If water is escaping quickly, turn off the stopcock if you safely can.
